True Water Conservation:

Here in Kansas we are currently (July 2008) experiencing a sustained heat wave. Temperatures have been hitting 98 to 100 degrees daily for the past 10 days. Our grass is doing great, yet I estimate the ‘Intelligent Sprinkler Control’ has cut my water consumption 30 – 40%. ISC has really been the primary reason for our sustained grass quality during the current heat wave.

The computer driven program has a lot of flexibility in its menu of settings. The owner will need to be computer literate to utilize the full benefits of ISC. It is a lawn and gardener’s delight with many features, an irrigation controller for those who demand more than just a wall mounted 24 hr. timer. ISC provides a true method for water conservation without having to sacrifice a nice lawn and garden.

The program and hardware costs are of little consequence compared to the water cost savings. I am very pleased with my underground sprinkler system and “cost savings performance results” attributed to ISC, designed by Lake Valley Engineering, it is the way to go. There is no way I would go back to the old timer system, there is no comparison.

P.S. If golf courses, municipalities, universities, businesses, or any institution managing a large campus, were to apply this program for their watering needs, the accumulative conservation benefits would be staggering.

Our irrigation system is based on 11 zones serving a variety of foliage including flowerbeds, native plants and grasses, as well as two Kentucky Blue Grass lawn areas. We have numerous plantings on the North side of the house that are shaded throughout the growing season. Given the variety and complexity entailed, we engaged LVE to install and configure their ISC system. LVE replaced the Rainbird EXP16LX, acquired with the home, which we found challenging to use.

Our home has some unique AC power distribution, and it turned out the typical X10 solution was not compatible. We chose an alternate solution using a dedicated computer connected directly to the zone valve controllers. I was pleased with the professional hardware installation and surprised by the comprehensive configuration details ISC facilitated. ISC easily adapted to the plant variety in each zone and adjusts scheduling based on soil and slope conditions.

The first full month of ISC use was in September 2007 with impressive reductions over what the replaced Rainbird EXP16LX timer system would have applied. Our total water use in September (irrigation and household) was 13,000 gal at a cost of $148. Before ISC, our average use based on historical water bills during irrigable months, was 25,000 gals at a cost of $348 per month. Savings in September alone (est. $200) covered 33% of our initial hardware costs (which included the expense of a dedicated laptop computer). Given ISC's ability to apply adaptive irrigation in response to real-time demand, I suspect next summers peak usage may approach the old timers application rate. However, unlike the timer, ISC will throttle back irrigation when demand isn't at peak resulting in savings at the beginning and end of the growing season typical of what we experienced in September.

At the end of the day, our new LVE system has demonstrated its ability to save. I'm now convinced ISC will achieve the conservation levels and cost reductions advertised, and I look forward to reaping future savings and benefits while concurrently conserving water.

I find the LVE sprinkling system revolutionary because it determines the correct solution based on my geodesic location and yard layout each time it prepares an irrigation job. I like the fact that it applies the right amount of water to my yard based on current conditions, minimizing waste and expense. An added benefit is that local weather data is presented in a concise manner and is available 24x7. You do not need to be a technology genius to run this system, it can be used by anyone. I am totally satisfied and I have no hesitation in recommending it to my friends and family.

After five years of successive drought conditions in Boulder County, with watering restrictions limited to twice a week and 20 minutes per cycle, our yard was dried out with several brown patches. This past summer the Intelligent Sprinkler Control (ISC) revived the yard resulting in a renewed and lush lawn. ISC scheduling options offered more flexibility than the traditional 8-zone timer controller. For example, I was able to easily exclude watering during the morning routine while the family was getting ready for the day and on laundry day. ISC also provides a convenient means to manage our irrigation water budget. The days of "shock & awe" when the monthly bill arrives are long gone. ISC determined the watering schedule after consideration of unique watering restrictions, weather conditions, and budget constraints. I have more confidence in the reliability of ISC running on my PC than with the original 8-zone time controller. I'm a satisfied customer with results that exceeded my expectations and speak for themselves.
